GAPC 2015 in Edinburgh
With the title “Momentum for change: research and advocacy reducing alcohol harm” the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA) and Alcohol Focus Scotland co-hosted the Global Alcohol Policy Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland from 7-9 October 2015.
412 delegates from 60 countries attended the conference. During three days there were 4 plenaries and 26 concurrent sessions with all together 110 oral presentations. At least 55 poster presentations were available to participants in the conference center lobby. Scotland’s First Minister, Ms Nicola Sturgeon held the keynote speech in the opening session.
The key themes for the conference were:
- Implementing Effective Alcohol Policies
- Barriers to Implementing Effective Alcohol Policies
- Building Support for Protecting Children’s Right to Grow Up Free from Alcohol Marketing
- Building a Global Network
The first Global Alcohol Policy Conference (GAPC) was held in Syracuse, NY, USA in 2000. Later global conferences were organized in Nonthaburi, Thailand in February 2012 and in Seoul, South Korea in October 2013. The GAPC 2015 was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 7-9 October 2015. The next Global Alcohol Policy conference will be held in Australia in 2017.
